The Missouri River musical, Gumbo Bottoms, will be performed at Turner Hall, Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12 at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $12, $10 for students and seniors and are available at Family Shoe Store, 407 Main Street in Boonville or by calling 660-882-2390. The musical, inspired by stories collected along the river, premiered in 2008 and toured to several Missouri River communities in 2009 and 2010. The show is sponsored by the Turner Hall River Rats with support from Missouri Arts Council and the Columbia Daily Tribune. Christopher Bolin, scenic designer for the Turner Hall River Rats has been busy re-designing the shanty boat and back drop. Limited performance space and portability have been his main concerns for the prodcution aboard the Queen of the Mississippi. His new set and lighting rig will make touring Gumbo Bottoms and other productions much easier.
Returning cast members include Lesley Oswald, Deb Jewett, Willie Cogshell, and Steve Jones. Joining the cast will be Jennifer Davis and Michael Crowe. Cathy Barton and Dave Pare along with Kevin Hennessy welcome David Wilson, a fiddle player from Springfield, to the Gumbo Bottoms band. A studio recording of the musical was produced in the spring and CDs will be available at the show or by visiting www.GumboBottomsMusical.com.
